An apartment fire in northeast Minot today was the cause of some external building damage Around six o clock this afternoon the Minot Fire Department received a report of a door on fire at an apartment complex located on 6th Street SE Shortly after arrival firefighters determined the cause to be an electrical malfunction on the exterior of the building Captain John Krill of the Minot Fire Department was part of the crew that responded and says it didn t take long to put out the fire but there were still other concerns for the firefighters Capt John Krill Minot Fire Department Everyone was out of the building and our biggest concern was not getting firemen hurt We had to carefully attack the fire because it involved electricity And we just took our time gave it some short bursts knocked the fire down and we re waiting for Xcel energy to show up and as soon as they get the power shut down we re to go ahead and clear up the rest of some minor fire and make sure it s out so it doesn t start back up again Krill says the interior of the building may have received some smoke damage but the most severe damage was contained to the exterior of the complex
